It’s Not You! You Are Enough!

However resilient you are, when your role is made redundant it has an impact! Some may have been thinking it was time to leave and it may come at a good time but even in these cases, emotions may vary from excitement to anxiety about the future, anger, grief, to sadness. Your perspective may vary from hour to hour! It can be hard to make sense of it, particularly when no good reason was shared with you!

Hope some of these tips will resonate/be helpful:
✨ If you only take one thing away from this let it be this: It's not you! You are enough! Your role is not your identity. You are so much more! ✨

💫 Take some time to process what has happened. Rest - Recover - Reset

💫 Even for those who felt they were okay, when you look back you may realise you were not as okay as you thought you were

💫 If at all possible, try to pause before looking for a new role. It can be scary when you are not sure if you can cope financially but taking a break can help you get into a better head space for making decisions about what you really want

💫 Be open to availing of the outplacement supports. It is common in coaching to do an initial chemistry session to ensure you are both aligned. If you don't feel the coach you have been assigned is a fit, ask for someone else

💫 Consider availing of counselling if this is an offering from your EAP/Health Insurance

💫 Consider 1:1 coaching - it's a game changer!

💫 Don't walk the pier alone. There is no shame or stigma in your role being made redundant.

💫 Connection & Community: Get in touch with friends and people you worked with before for a coffee and a chat. We often avoid 'networking' as it may feel like we are asking for something. Think of it as chatting with others - thinking out loud - figuring out what you want and what you don't want. People may have ideas that resonate or may offer to introduce you to someone.

💫 Don't trust the algorithms. If you are not the IDEAL worker* the algorithms may not favour you. You might have a better chance of finding the right role by connecting with real people.
*The ideal workers is an employee who is perpetually available, fully devoted to work, and unencumbered by personal responsibilities. If you want to know more about the ideal worker, Erin Reid's research paper is very interesting

💫 Gather positive feedback and wins in one place to refer to in moments of doubt

💫 Write down what annoyed you about the company so you're not tempted to go back! 🤣

💫 Be kind to yourself. Journalling can be helpful. Practice gratitude. There is always something however small to be grateful for

✨ Redundancy can be Redirection - to something better! Take your time to consider what you want and what you DON'T want. Trust your inner knowing ✨
